Environmental Mainstreaming in WASH

CONCEPT

During a three-day training course on environmental mainstreaming in WASH, which will take place in Berlin at the beginning of May, professionals will learn how to systematically integrate environmentally and climate-sensitive approaches into humanitarian WASH measures in order to reduce negative environmental impacts and strengthen climate resilience. The course is aimed at WASH professionals in humanitarian aid who are involved in capacity building or programme planning and want to make their projects more environmentally friendly and climate resilient.

Over three days, the following topics will be covered: minimising environmental impacts in WASH interventions, strengthening disaster preparedness and climate resilience, and the use of practical tools, methods and case studies. The training comprises eight technical modules on environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient WASH design (including water, sanitation and hygiene) with a strong focus on localisation and strengthening local actors. Participants will receive training materials that can be used immediately for further capacity development in their own projects.
